The ScreenX format is reportedly playing a major role in the box office success of the movie 'COLONY', which recently surpassed 2 million admissions.
According to CGV, 'COLONY', which was released on May 21, recorded a seat occupancy rate of over 30% in ScreenX theaters during its opening weekend. This marks the highest opening weekend seat occupancy rate among all new live-action feature films released in the ScreenX format this year.
In the ScreenX format, 'COLONY' maximizes immersion by unfolding its massive crowd scenes and action sequences across a three-sided expanded screen. The infected and various threats expand to the side screens, surrounding the audience and delivering a suffocating sense of terror that closes in from all directions. The slime-covered interior of the building and the movements of the infected stretch across the three-sided screen, offering an overwhelming sense of space and genre-defining suspense.
Prior to its official release, CGV held a ScreenX Supporters preview screening for 'COLONY', garnering rave reviews and boosting box office expectations. ScreenX is the world's first multi-projection theater system that extends the screen beyond the center to the left and right walls, and is currently operating in 50 countries worldwide, including South Korea.
'COLONY' is a film about isolated survivors trapped inside a sealed building due to an unidentified infection crisis, fighting against infected beings that evolve in unpredictable ways. Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, the film stars Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyohwan, Ji Changwook, Kim Shin-rok, and Shin Hyun-been.
