Jun Ji-hyun, starring in the film "COLONY"—which draws inspiration from the AI era—cautiously shared her thoughts on artificial intelligence.
When asked about how and how often she uses AI, Jun Ji-hyun, who plays a lead role in "COLONY", said, "Even when we were filming this movie, people weren't using AI in real-time to this extent. Back then, it was more about asking ChatGPT for fortune-telling or creating Ghibli-style anime photos. But now, everyone asks it everything, right? I also ask it whenever there's something I don't know or am curious about. Oh, but I don't actually believe in fortune-telling."
Recently, there has been a growing sense of crisis in Hollywood regarding AI's infiltration into film sets, while the domestic entertainment industry has also seen actors' publicity rights violated through AI deepfakes.
When asked for her thoughts on this, Jun Ji-hyun admitted it was a "difficult question" but cautiously replied, "I've heard that they can make movies in just a day or two with a small budget by creating digital actors without actual actors even appearing. While it is certainly an approaching future, I think we still have some time. I feel we should prepare what we can and study what we need to study."
When asked if she thinks an "AI Jun Ji-hyun" could replace the real Jun Ji-hyun, she laughed it off, saying, "Looking at how fast the zombies learn and evolve in 'COLONY', maybe it could happen? As someone promoting this movie, that's how I'd like to put it."
When asked about the selling point of "COLONY", Jun Ji-hyun answered, "I believe the director's intended message is fully embedded in the film. But before the message, I hope the audience can fully enjoy the thrills of the zombie genre."
"COLONY" tells the story of survivors isolated inside a sealed building due to a mysterious infection outbreak, fighting against infected beings that have evolved in unpredictable ways. It marks Jun Ji-hyun's return to the big screen after 11 years.
