Director Yeon Sang-ho's new film 'COLONY' has surpassed 2 million viewers nationwide in just five days of release.

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for theater tickets on May 26, 'COLONY' topped the box office by drawing 1,283,343 viewers nationwide over its first weekend from May 22 to 24. It then added 517,011 viewers on May 25, an alternative holiday for Buddha's Birthday, reaching the 2 million milestone on its fifth day of release. According to the distributor Showbox, the cumulative number of viewers stands at 2,000,005.

This is a faster pace to reach the 2 million mark than other 2026 hit releases such as 'The King's Warden', 'Salmokji: Whispering Water', and 'Project Hail Mary'. Starting with the highest opening score of 2026, 'COLONY' has continuously broken box office records this year, including the highest opening weekend score, the fastest time to reach 1 million viewers, and now surpassing 2 million viewers.

Benefiting from a holiday weekend right after its release, as well as the government-distributed 6,000 KRW movie discount coupons for citizens, 'COLONY' became the fastest film released this year to surpass 2 million viewers.

With a production budget of 17 billion KRW, the break-even point for 'COLONY' is approximately 3 million viewers. Having successfully drawn over 2 million viewers in its first week alone, the film is expected to surpass its break-even point as early as this weekend.
