'My Royal Nemesis': Lim Ji-yeon Sports a Blood-Smeared Face and a Bright Smile in Shocking New Shamanic Ritual Stills

"My Royal Nemesis" star Lim Ji-yeon is set to deliver yet another legendary comedic scene with a performance that is equal parts terrifying and lovable — a full-on “blood-soaked shamanic ritual.”

SBS’s Friday-Saturday drama "My Royal Nemesis" is a romantic comedy about Shin Seo-ri (played by Lim Ji-yeon), an unknown actress possessed by the spirit of a notorious Joseon-era villainess, who transforms into a true menace, and Cha Se-gye (played by Heo Nam-jun), a ruthless chaebol heir known as “a monster created by capitalism.” The series follows their explosive, war-like romance.

The drama has continued to break its own ratings record with every episode, soaring to a peak nationwide rating of 7.8%. It has also sparked global buzz by ranking No. 2 on Netflix’s weekly Global Top 10 Non-English TV Shows chart for the May 11–17 tracking period.

Previously, the series gained attention for hilarious standout moments such as the “Jang Hui-bin possession meme” and the “home shopping sellout show.” Ahead of today’s (May 22) broadcast, the production team released new stills showcasing Shin Seo-ri’s shocking new look.

In the newly revealed photos, Seo-ri appears on a rooftop in broad daylight completely covered in blood, with both her hands and face smeared bright red, startling viewers. The scene is part of a so-called “protective exorcism ritual” carried out by the Joseon villainess Shin Seo-ri in order to survive safely in the unfamiliar and frightening world of 21st-century modern society.

Despite her bizarre appearance — thick layers of blood spread across her pale skin — Seo-ri’s bright smile contrasts hilariously with her fierce determination to survive at all costs, creating an oddly “deadly yet adorable” charm that promises plenty of laughs.

Also drawing attention is Geum Bosal (played by Oh Min-ae), fully dressed in shamanic robes and radiating an imposing spiritual aura. Adding another comedic touch, trendy candied fruit skewers known as tanghulu are proudly placed atop the otherwise solemn ritual table, seemingly proving Seo-ri’s intense love of sweets.

The newly released stills also capture Seo-ri casually thrusting her blood-covered hand forward while Manager Gu (played by Park Jin-woo) recoils in horror and falls backward in shock, further heightening anticipation for the episode.

Viewers are eager to see how the perfect comedic chemistry between Seo-ri and Geum Bosal — a duo guaranteed to leave audiences in stitches whenever they appear together — will explode during this chaotic ritual sequence.

Episode 5 of "My Royal Nemesis" airs tonight (May 22) at 9:50 p.m. on SBS.
