The new tvN drama 'God Bless the Assemblyman' (written by Kwon Jong-kwan, directed by Park Shin-woo) is based on a popular web novel of the same name. It tells the story of Goo Young-jin (played by Kim Yoon-seok), a seasoned politician who returns from the past as a ghost, and Cha Jae-rim (played by Kim Seon-ho), a ninth-grade civil servant with no political experience, as they protect each other and forge their own destinies.
Kim Yoon-seok plays Goo Young-jin, a six-term lawmaker who returns as a ghost after his life is cut short by a corruption scandal. A veteran politician who believes that politics is a precise design rather than a matter of conviction, he joins hands with Cha Jae-rim to seek revenge and reset his life, racing once again toward the center of power.
"I am excited to be working with such excellent actors and staff," Kim Yoon-seok said. "I am happy to have found a great project, and I will give my all to leave a lasting impression on the viewers."
His appearance in a TV drama is particularly noteworthy. After focusing on films since the 2007 MBC drama 'Love Me When You Can', he returned to television after 17 years in the 2024 Netflix series 'The Frog'. Unlike 'The Frog', which was an OTT original, 'God Bless the Assemblyman' is a TV broadcast drama, making it more accessible to viewers. Expectations are high for Kim Yoon-seok's full-scale return to the small screen.
Kim Seon-ho plays Cha Jae-rim, a ninth-grade civil servant who has nothing. Having aimed only for an ordinary life, he is lured by a proposal from the ghostly political strategist Goo Young-jin and finds himself stepping into the fierce world of politics.
"It is a true honor to be working on such a great project with actors I respect," Kim Seon-ho said, expressing his excitement. "I enjoyed the original web novel, and the drama script is just as fun. The atmosphere on set is great, so I am already looking forward to seeing how the final product turns out. I will prepare diligently, so please look forward to it."
The project brings together director Park Shin-woo, recognized for his sophisticated directing in 'It's Okay to Not Be Okay' and 'Unknown Seoul', and writer Kwon Jong-kwan, who penned 'The Price of Confession'.
