Actor Sooyoung is set to take the stage in the play 'The Merchant of Venice'.

'The Merchant of Venice' is considered the pinnacle of Shakespearean comedy. Park Company, which created a major sensation with 'Waiting for Godot', is teaming up with director Oh Kyung-taek once again. The production drew attention early on with the news that actors Shin Goo and Park Geun-hyung would be appearing. The final star-studded cast, including Sooyoung, Lee Seung-joo, Kai, Won Jin-ah, Kim Seul-gi, and Kim Ah-young, has now been revealed, heightening expectations.

Sooyoung will take the stage as 'Portia', the heiress of Belmont who is gifted with both wit and wisdom. In the play, Portia not only drives the plot through her narrative with the Venetian nobleman Bassanio but also plays a key role in the courtroom, acting as a central figure who clearly highlights the themes of the work.

Sooyoung has built a stable acting spectrum while moving between dramas and films, and she showcased even deeper acting skills through the Genie TV original drama 'I Dol I'. This marks her first stage appearance in about 3 years since the 2023 play 'Wife'. Word is that Sooyoung’s mindset is particularly focused as she prepares to take the stage in one of Shakespeare’s representative works.

'The Merchant of Venice' will be performed at the National Theater of Korea's Haeoreum Grand Theater from July 8 to August 9.
