"Family Matters" is returning for Season 2.
As Coupang Play’s first-ever seasonal series draws renewed attention, the platform dropped photos from the script reading, teasing a bigger universe and deeper character arcs.
Season 2 follows Young-soo’s family, who arrive in a new city hiding their past. To protect each other from a more powerful evil, they set out to complete a hellish revenge.
Director-writer Kim Jung-min led the script reading with main cast Bae Doona, Baek Yoon-sik, Park Byung-eun, Lomon, and Lee Soo-hyun, alongside key crew. The original “family” from Season 1 showed even tighter chemistry, while razor-sharp performances from the new faces instantly turned the room electric.
Season 1 standouts Bae Doona, Baek Yoon-sik, Lomon, and Lee Soo-hyun reunite to anchor the story. “Brain hacker” mom Han Young-soo (Bae Doona) brings cool-headed leadership; Baek Gang-sung (Baek Yoon-sik) keeps his gruff, weighty presence. Their son Baek Ji-hoon (Lomon) and daughter Baek Ji-woo (Lee Soo-hyun) return more mature, tightening the family bond. Adding intrigue, Park Byung-eun joins as uncle Baek Cheol-yong ― a pivotal new turning point for Young-soo’s family.
The villain lineup powering up Season 2 also raises the stakes. Heavy-hitters Park Ho-san, Jeon Hye-jin, Kang Ki-young, Baek Ju-hee, Shin Sung-min, and Lee Joong-ok join to build an expanded “great evil” unlike anything before.
After the read-through, Bae Doona shared, “The new characters felt so much scarier than in the first season.” Baek Yoon-sik added, “Just coming together again made for a grateful, joyful time.”
"Family Matters" has earned praise at home and abroad for its original worldbuilding, intense pacing, and black-comedy edge. Bae Doona’s Best Actress win and the series’ invite to Europe’s largest series festival, Series Mania Festival, already proved its standout quality.
Season 2 is currently filming and will premiere on Coupang Play in the second half of 2026.
