Premiering May 8, SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama "My Royal Nemesis" (written by Kang Hyun-joo, directed by Han Tae-seop) is a high-tension, war-like romantic comedy. The story pairs a nameless actress, Shin Seori (Lim Ji-yeon), who becomes possessed by the soul of notorious Joseon-era villainess Kang Dan-sim (also Lim Ji-yeon), with Cha Segye (Heo Nam-joon), a ruthless chaebol dubbed a “monster of capitalism.” Director Han Tae-seop of Hot Stove League and Cheer Up teams up with rookie writer Kang Hyun-joo.
Lim Ji-yeon’s character Kang Dan-sim spits in the face of mockery and pays back schemers in full. Though born low, she claws her way up to the rank of Hee-bin, shaking Joseon as an infamous “villainess.” Newly released stills from the 9th show Dan-sim after receiving a death-by-poison decree, instantly drawing attention.
Dan-sim exits the palace with a calm face―until she spots the prepared poison and erupts in fury. On her knees, eyes blazing, she sheds a single, bitter tear. She hurls the bowl of poison and vents her rage; even four palace maids struggle to restrain her. The visceral fight at what seems like her final moment raises questions about who “Kang Dan-sim” really is―and how this venomous “Joseon villainess” wakes up in 2026 inside the body of the unknown actress “Shin Seori.”
