Woo Do-hwan and Lee Sang-yi say they’re going “beyond bromance, into ‘bromelo’” in "Bloodhounds" Season 2.

At the Netflix series "Bloodhounds" Season 2 press conference held the morning of the 31st at Ambassador Seoul - Pullman, Woo Do-hwan spoke about his on-screen synergy with Lee Sang-yi this season. “I think our friendship has deepened. People call it ‘bromance,’ but we think it’s ‘bromelo,’” he said. “These are friends who’ve known the pain of losing someone precious. They’re bound by fate, determined to make sure no one gets hurt to the very end, and they’re each other’s rock.”

First released in 2023, "Bloodhounds" delivered pure adrenaline with two young boxers taking on illegal loan sharks through raw, bare-knuckle action. Returning after three years, Season 2 follows Gun-woo (Woo Do-hwan) and Woo-jin (Lee Sang-yi)―the duo who took down a ruthless loan-sharking ring―as they aim a cathartic straight hook at a global underground boxing league ruled by money and violence. Jung Ji-hoon joins as Baek-jeong, the ultimate villain who runs the illegal league.

Director Kim Joo-hwan praised the reunited leads. “There are so many scenes where they cry together this season, and I cried on set too. It really hit me,” he said. “It was fascinating to feel Season 1’s emotions carry straight into Season 2. This might be the best bromance I’ve ever made.”

Woo Do-hwan plays Gun-woo, a righteous young boxer who lives day by day with a champion’s heart and blazing fists. After fighting his way to the long-dreamed-of championship title match, he ends up in the crosshairs of Baek-jeong, the mastermind behind the global illegal boxing league.

Lee Sang-yi takes on Woo-jin, Gun-woo’s steadfast partner―a boxer armed with Marine spirit―who now stands by Gun-woo as family and coach. When the massive evil of the illegal league emerges, Woo-jin decides to battle it at Gun-woo’s side to the very end.

Reflecting on reuniting, Woo Do-hwan said, “It feels like we’ve been together for a long time. I’m honored to be here again because so many people loved Season 1.” Lee Sang-yi added, “This is my first time doing a seasonal drama. While filming Season 1, I wasn’t thinking about a Season 2, so when I heard it was happening, I felt proud―as if Season 1 had been recognized.”

They highlighted “growth” as the key change. Woo Do-hwan said, “Gun-woo kept training with a world champion title in mind and grew through it. He also got even closer to Woo-jin. If last season he felt like a total rookie to society, this season we wanted to show him maturing into an adult.”

On Woo-jin’s evolution into Gun-woo’s coach, Lee Sang-yi shared, “Gun-woo and Woo-jin have become as close as real brothers. Over those three years, as a hyung who truly cherishes Gun-woo and loves him, I became his coach to help make him a world champion. Then we meet Baek-jeong, and conflicts explode. Gun-woo and Woo-jin have deepened, and their sense of responsibility has grown. That intensified duty to protect ‘my people’ feels like Season 2’s key emotional shift.”

"Bloodhounds" Season 2 runs for seven episodes and premieres April 3 (Fri) on Netflix.
