YUNA opened up about the changes and growth she’s felt while preparing her first solo album.
At a press conference for her solo album "ICE CREAM" on the afternoon of the 23rd in Jayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, she said, “I thought a lot during recording about how to fill the album with my voice in a colorful way. I worried a lot and was scared at times, but this album became a chance for me to grow again.”
With ITZY drawing fresh buzz thanks to the resurgence of “THAT'S A NO NO,” YUNA said she’s ready to carry that momentum into her solo. “The album is packed with bright, lovable energy,” she shared. “I hope it’s a song you can enjoy on a spring drive or during your commute.”
YUNA also addressed being named in the 4th-gen girl group “visual line,” often referred to as “Jang-Ka-Sull-Yu” (JANGWONYOUNG, KARINA, SULLYOON, YUNA). “I’m so thankful to be called a K-pop visual icon,” she said. “Through this solo stage, I want to be recognized as a capable singer as a solo artist, too.”
Debuting in a group at age 15, YUNA is now in her seventh year of promotions. Speaking about chief producer J.Y. Park, she said, “He’s watched my growth, so he looks at me with extra warmth.” She added, “I met the producer early in the solo prep. I told him I was working hard, and he told me, ‘Don’t get hurt and finish well, staying healthy.’ The affectionate way he said it really stayed with me and gave me strength.”
“At first, I wondered, ‘Can I really do this alone?’ and that was scary,” she recalled. “But during the process I discovered sides of myself I didn’t know. Thanks to the staff, my members, and our fans, I gained a lot of confidence. It was a time of learning and growth, and I even kept a journal to give myself courage and boost my confidence.”
YUNA releases the title track "ICE CREAM" today, marking a new challenge as a solo artist.
