Veteran musical actor Nam Kyung-joo (63), who has worked for 40 years, will not be allowed to teach at Hongik University, where he is an associate professor.
On the 12th, Hongik University said it had taken personnel action regarding Associate Professor Nam in accordance with its HR rules.
One day earlier, on the 11th, media reports said Nam was investigated last month by the Seoul Bangbae Police Station on suspicion of sexual assault by abuse of authority. The case was forwarded to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office last month. The incident allegedly took place late last year in the Seocho-gu area of Seoul. Nam is reportedly strongly denying the allegations.
Nam has deleted his social media accounts and has not released an official statement.
The university’s personnel action was reportedly underway even before the news broke.
Nam has been active since the 1980s as one of Korea’s leading musical actors, appearing in numerous productions.
