Park Jung-min Apologizes After Last-Minute 'Life of Pi' Cancellation: "I Have No Excuse"
Park Jung-min
Actor Park Jung-min issued a direct apology after the controversy over the canceled "Life of Pi" performance.

As he does not have a personal social media account, Park posted a lengthy apology on his agency’s account on the 11th, writing, “I want to sincerely apologize to every audience member who came to last night’s show.”

The performance of "Life of Pi" featuring Park was scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. on the 10th at GS Art Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, but was canceled about five minutes before curtain due to lighting technology issues. The production asked for understanding, citing technical problems and safety concerns, and announced refunds of 110% of the ticket price for those who could not see the show.

Many audience members, who had spent time and money to see Park’s performance, expressed frustration over the last-minute notice. The production later added that the canceled performance will be restaged on the 16th with the same cast. It also stated it would provide a 10% refund to attendees of the rescheduled show and a 110% refund to those who choose not to attend.

Alongside the production’s compensation plan, Park shared his own apology. He explained, “Some lighting units malfunctioned, and the production decided to cancel, judging it would severely disrupt viewing. There were also safety concerns for the puppeteers who have to move inside the puppets.”

Still, he stressed that no reason could make up for the shock fans felt: “It’s our mistake, and nothing can ease that moment for you. Thinking of those who had to turn back at theater doors that never opened leaves me speechless. The precious time, energy, and care you gave us are a debt we can’t repay.”

Park added, “Before apologizing, I felt we needed to prepare the best possible alternative. An apology without a plan would be irresponsible.” He proposed adding a special performance, which the production accepted. “We needed time to coordinate with the venue, the many staff members involved, and the audience who came yesterday. We know a re-performance can’t fully make up for your disappointment, but we hope it offers at least a small comfort.”

He concluded, “I have no excuse for putting you through an unwanted experience. The cast and all staff will work even harder for the remaining shows. If you can, I hope to see you at the re-performance―we’ll give it everything. On behalf of the team, I sincerely apologize. I’m sorry.”
