Actor Moon Chae-won (39) is earning praise for keeping a promise she made to a TV crew.
On the Jan. 21 episode of the YouTube channel “Ha Ji-young,” host Ha Ji-young reunited with Moon, who stopped by to promote her new film "Heartman". “It’s been over 10 years since I last saw you,” Ha said, recalling their interview back when Moon appeared on SBS’s Hanbam.
Ha remembered a moment from the Blue Dragon Film Awards: “You said, ‘If I win, dinner’s on me.’ You did win―and you picked up the tab for the entire team with your own card.” Moon simply replied, “A promise is a promise,” earning smiles all around.
Moon broke out in 2011 with "War of the Arrows," taking home Best New Actress at both the 48th Grand Bell Awards and the 32nd Blue Dragon Film Awards.
Looking back, Ha described her first impression of Moon as “poised in the way she speaks, a playful sparkle in her eyes, and a decisive, leader-like energy.” To repay that kindness from years ago, Ha treated Moon to a homemade meal during the taping.
Moon also showed a candid, down-to-earth side rarely seen on variety shows. “I’ve done a lot of promo, but it’s my first time having a one-on-one conversation like this―it’s an honor,” she said, opening up about her perfectionism: “It helps my acting, but it can be hard on me, too.”
Naming "Heartman" as her first film of 2026, Moon added, “Movies can turn out different from what you imagine, so that makes me anxious. But this one, I’m genuinely satisfied with―and I want more people to see it.” She closed with a note to her 2026 self: “I’m proud I’ve stayed steady for nearly 20 years doing what I love without major setbacks. Let’s be more flexible and wiser this year.”
