An alleged intruder accused of robbing and injuring Nana at her home denied most of the prosecution’s allegations at his first court hearing.
At the Uijeongbu District Court’s Namyangju Branch (Criminal Division 1, Presiding Judge Kim Guk-sik) on the 20th, the Defendant (34), who is in custody on robbery resulting in injury charges, told the court he “entered thinking the house was empty due to financial hardship” and claimed “the knife wasn’t mine―the victim brought it out from inside the house.”
Prosecutors allege that in the early hours of November 15 last year in Ahyeon-dong, Guri, Gyeonggi Province, the Defendant broke into Nana’s residence, threatened Nana and her mother, injured them, and demanded valuables.
The Defendant further argued that “after (Nana’s) mother calmed down, Nana suddenly ran out and swung the knife, and a scuffle broke out―I was resisting.” He asked the court to request a National Forensic Service analysis of the knife and its case.
While under detention last December, the Defendant filed a complaint accusing Nana of attempted murder and aggravated assault, claiming he was injured by the blade. Police reviewed the incident and related materials and determined Nana’s actions fell under legitimate self-defense, issuing a no-charge, non-referral decision for her on the 16th.
Nana and her mother have submitted medical reports indicating recovery periods of 33 and 31 days, respectively, due to the alleged attack. The court plans to hear testimony from Nana and her mother at the next session. The Defendant’s next hearing is set for March 10.
