Actor Kang Eun-bi, 39, shared that she lost her baby at five months pregnant.
In a new video on her YouTube channel titled “Five Months that Felt Short and Endless―21 Weeks. Saying Goodbye to Sansami. Baby, I Love You,” Kang revealed the heartbreaking news herself. The clip opens with her husband, Byeon Jun-pil, fighting back tears as he comforts her, setting an emotional tone.
Kang, who married in April last year and was expecting to give birth in May, documented the journey from the moment the couple learned they were expecting. The video includes tender memories: the pair calling their son by his nickname, “Sansami,” and writing it in the sand at the beach as they waited to meet him―scenes that make the loss feel even more poignant.
“On January 3, I said goodbye to Sansami,” she shared. She explained that on December 29, at 20 weeks and 2 days, a detailed ultrasound revealed her amniotic fluid had dropped sharply. Suspected leakage during the exam led to an emergency transfer to a higher-level hospital.
Up to that point, all tests had been normal and she felt him kicking. “I blamed myself, thinking I’d overworked,” she said. “But after I was admitted, I was told my amniotic fluid was at zero. They suspected premature rupture of membranes and put me on strict bed rest. We prayed and waited for the fluid to return, but it didn’t. His position was unstable, and we were told his lungs wouldn’t be able to develop further.”
“When I heard he was barely hanging on in such a tight space, everything fell apart,” Kang continued. Faced with an agonizing decision, she underwent an induced delivery at 21 weeks to say goodbye to her son.
“Our baby left as soon as he was born,” she said. “All I could do was cry for him. It was so cold that day, and I couldn’t bear the thought of him being alone―so I stood there and wept.” She added a message to her son: “Those five months felt short and long all at once. Thank you for being with Mom. Because of you, I became a mother, and I laughed and felt true happiness. If you come back to me as my son again, I’ll be here, ready to meet you healthy.”
Her story has resonated widely, drawing an outpouring of sympathy and support.
Kang Eun-bi and Byeon Jun-pil married last year after 17 years together and co-run a YouTube channel called “Byeon-Bi Married Couple.”
