ANNIE of K-pop group ALLDAY PROJECT is pressing pause on promotions to focus on school.
The Black Label confirmed on the 14th that ANNIE has re-enrolled at Columbia University in New York and plans to complete her final semester by May.
Addressing fans on her community the same day, ANNIE explained, “I was told early last year I couldn’t extend my leave of absence anymore, so I discussed it with the members and the company and made the call. It’s just one more semester until graduation. It’s about three and a half months until early May―will you wait for me?”
She added, “I’ll work hard at school and get a lot of music done in the States,” noting she’ll still fly to Korea once or twice a month for schedules.
While it’s not uncommon for idols to step back for health or rest, taking time off to study abroad is rarer―another reason ANNIE’s move is drawing attention. She has previously said she set her sights on Columbia to earn her parents’ blessing to debut as a singer. She is also known as the eldest daughter of Shinsegae Group chairwoman Chung Yoo-kyung.
During ANNIE’s study break, fellow ALLDAY PROJECT members will focus on music and individual activities to stay connected with fans.
