Philanthropy-minded stars Kim Jang-hoon and Sean just made good on a promise.
On Dec. 29, the pair visited Eruda, an alternative school that supports independent living for students with Williams syndrome and other developmental challenges. They donated musical instruments worth 11.65 million won and spent time with students and their families over lunch and a live set.
The giveback traces back to a July episode of Sean’s YouTube channel, “Together with Sean,” and its “Dangerous Invitation” segment. During an interview, Kim took on a playful AI-driven challenge that fined him every time he repeated a go-to word or habitual gesture―on the spot, in real time.
As the chat went on, the fines snowballed to a staggering 11 million won. After a good laugh, Kim pledged to donate the entire amount, a moment that helped the video go viral.
Five months later, he followed through―and Sean jumped in, turning it into their first joint giveback. Because of noise complaints, some students hadn’t been able to practice drums at home, so the duo brought an electronic drum kit, plus a synthesizer, microphones, a busking amp, and other wish-list gear tailored to the school’s needs.
After treating students and families to lunch, the two surprised everyone with an afternoon performance―the first time the “King of Live Shows” Kim Jang-hoon has teamed with Sean for an actual set rather than a talk. Their longtime collaborator known as “Jokbal Shin Seonsaeng,” a popular jokbal restaurateur, also joined to amplify the goodwill.
Fans are applauding the follow-through from two of Korea’s most visible celebrity philanthropists, and there’s growing excitement for what they’ll do together next.
Kim, who spent the year crisscrossing the country on tour, keeps the momentum going in February with the Kim Jang-hoon One-Man Show in Busan: “I Am a Dance Singer,” set for the Haneul Theater at the Busan Cinema Center.
