Singer Kim Jang-hoon responded with grace after receiving criticism from online users over the release of a wedding video featuring Mir (Bang Chul-yong), MBLAQ, and his non-celebrity wife.
On the afternoon of the 25th, Kim posted on social media, saying, “Regarding the controversy surrounding Mir’s wedding video, I want to express my gratitude. Through this incident, I was deeply moved by many of you.”
Previously, on the 22nd, Kim had issued an apology on his social media, stating, “I posted a video of the bride and groom exiting without realizing the wedding was private. I deserve the criticism,” bowing his head in apology. The issue arose after Kim performed a congratulatory song at Mir’s wedding on the 21st and later uploaded footage that included the newlyweds.
The video showed the face of Mir’s non-celebrity wife, which sparked controversy online, with criticism centered on a perceived lack of consideration for what was believed to be a private wedding.
However, a different explanation later emerged through a clarification video released on the 25th via the family-run YouTube channel, operated by Mir, his sister Go Eun-ah, and their family.
In the video, Mir’s side stated, “The wedding was not private, and we never said it was. Reporters did not attend simply because the bride is a non-celebrity, and media coverage was restrained out of consideration.” They added, “The wedding might have passed quietly, but thanks to Kim Jang-hoon, it became known,” expressing both apology and gratitude toward him.
The video also included a phone call between Kim Jang-hoon, Mir, and Go Eun-ah. Kim responded calmly, saying, “As long as the wedding ended well, that’s all that matters.” Mir’s side expressed regret, adding, “He even did such a wonderful congratulatory performance, so we felt very sorry.”
Later that same day, Kim posted a lengthy follow-up message explaining the situation further. He revealed that he learned the wedding was not private shortly after posting his apology, but chose not to delete it. He explained that correcting the facts again could spark further controversy and that he did not want the wedding—a moment of celebration—to remain the focus of public debate.
Kim especially noted that he was deeply moved by those who refrained from attacking him and instead responded with understanding, saying things like “He didn’t know.” He wrote, “It reminded me that understanding and trust make people kinder.” He added that he is spending Christmas quietly reflecting on himself while focusing on concert direction, rehearsals, and preparations for year-end charity events.
Meanwhile, Mir married his non-celebrity partner, who is one year his senior, on the 21st at a wedding hall in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. With explanations and statements from those involved now made public, the controversy appears to be settling as a mere misunderstanding.
