MBC Terminates Contract with Weathercaster Accused of Bullying Late Oh Yoanna

A weathercaster at MBC, who was accused of bullying the late Oh Yoanna, a fellow MBC weathercaster, has had their contract terminated by the network.

On the 21st, Media Today reported that MBC had terminated the contract with the accused weathercaster as of the 20th.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor, which investigated the bullying case of the late Oh Yoanna, identified a single perpetrator and imposed a fine of 15 million won on MBC for six violations of labor laws.

The family of the deceased has claimed that, in addition to the identified perpetrator, there were others within MBC's weathercasting team who made Oh Yoanna's work life miserable. However, it has been reported that MBC took action against only one individual, based on the findings of the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

After conducting a special labor inspection on MBC for about three months starting in February, the Ministry of Employment and Labor concluded that Oh Yoanna had indeed been subjected to workplace bullying. However, it was determined that punishing the involved parties would be difficult as the deceased was not recognized as a worker under the Labor Standards Act.

Oh Yoanna passed away in September 2023, and earlier this year, reports surfaced that she had been experiencing workplace bullying prior to her death.
