The latest episode of SBS's 'Whenever Possible,' aired on the 20th, topped the ratings chart for Tuesday's entertainment and drama programs across the board with a 1.4% viewership rating among the 20-49 demographic, according to Nielsen Korea, continuing its reign as a Tuesday powerhouse.
In this episode, co-hosts Yoo Jae-suk and Yoo Yeon-seok, along with 'Gap Friends' TWICE's JIHYO and SANA, visited a cafe in Geumho-dong and a snack bar in Geumnam Market, spreading positive energy with their infectious enthusiasm.
Yoo Jae-suk and Yoo Yeon-seok couldn't hide their excitement upon meeting JIHYO and SANA, who are already in their 10th year since debut. "Time flies so fast. It feels strange to be in the double digits," JIHYO laughed, adding, "Honestly, we've been constantly busy over the past 10 years, even opening for Coldplay recently," showcasing the seasoned idol's experience. Yoo Jae-suk expressed his admiration, saying, "Surviving as a group for 10 years in this cutthroat entertainment industry is truly impressive," raising expectations for JIHYO and SANA's performance filled with years of expertise.
The first 'Gap Owner' they met was the owner of a cafe on JIHYO's favorite street. The owner, who greeted them with his 4-year-old daughter, shared that being able to spend time with his daughter during her most adorable years was a joy, earning empathetic nods from 'Dad' Yoo Jae-suk. The first game they played was 'Cup Coaster Ping Pong,' with family sneakers as the prize, igniting a fierce competitive spirit among the four. JIHYO, initially confident, quickly changed her tune upon seeing the game, exclaiming, "Sorry, this is not trivial at all!" causing Yoo Jae-suk to burst into laughter. SANA, trying to boost morale, ended up becoming the game's weak link and humorously volunteered for a bonus coupon time, adding to the laughter.
After several attempts, they succeeded in the first level. JIHYO, sweating from the tension, eventually failed the second level, settling for 'Whenever Possible,' merchandise as a consolation prize. JIHYO promised to become a regular visitor to the cafe, much to everyone's amusement.
Before meeting the next 'Gap Owner,' they took a lunch break. SANA, experiencing the gap games for the first time, admitted to feeling extremely nervous, causing Yoo Jae-suk and Yoo Yeon-seok to collapse in laughter. JIHYO also confessed, "It's so different from watching at home. The pressure is real," showing her determination to succeed in the next game. At this point, JIHYO and Yoo Jae-suk revealed their polar opposite daily routines, with JIHYO enjoying walks and cafe visits, while Yoo Jae-suk preferred staying home or exercising, only leaving the house for shoots, leading to a burst of laughter from JIHYO.
Anecdotes from JIHYO and SANA's trainee days also caught attention. JIHYO reminisced, "Back in the day, SANA could only say 'hello,'" to which SANA added, "It was tough. I even thought about sneaking my Japanese home in the early hours. I planned to go with MOMO, but couldn't because our passports were with the company," revealing their secret escape plan and turning the set into a sea of laughter.
Their encounter with the second 'Gap Owner,' a tteokbokki shop owner in Geumnam Market who has held the same spot for 13 years, was touching. The owner shared heartwarming stories of long-time customers, from kindergarten to elementary school, sometimes giving them extra treats. JIHYO, desperate for success, gently placed the bonus coupon dice on the table, apologizing, "Sorry, that was a bit cheeky. I just really wanted to do well," making Yoo Jae-suk laugh uncontrollably.
Starting with zero bonus coupons, the game was 'Chomp Chomp Doctor Quiz.' JIHYO, with utmost politeness, asked if the game board could be lowered a bit for better visibility, while SANA played the foreigner card to the production team's dismay, earning admiration from Yoo Jae-suk and Yoo Yeon-seok. SANA, overwhelmed with nervousness, exclaimed, "I think I'm going to hyperventilate!" Their perseverance paid off as they succeeded on the sixth attempt. Despite subsequent mistakes, their encouragement for each other lifted everyone's spirits. Although they failed the second level, the 'Gap Owner' expressed gratitude for their visit, highlighting the meaningful connections made.
Thus, on this episode of 'Whenever Possible,' Yoo Jae-suk, Yoo Yeon-seok, JIHYO, and SANA's burning competitive spirit heated up the streets of Geumho-dong, delivering an episode brimming with passionate energy.
Co-hosts Yoo Jae-suk, Yoo Yeon-seok, and their special 'Gap Friends' continue to gift moments of luck in the brief gaps of everyday life through the gap strategy variety show 'Whenever Possible,' airing every Tuesday evening at 9 PM.
