Actress Moon So-ri had high praise for IU, her co-star in the Netflix original series 'When Life Gives You Tangerines.'

During a press interview held on the 2nd at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, Moon So-ri reminisced about her first encounter with IU.

Moon So-ri shared that she first met IU not through 'When Life Gives You Tangerines,' but over a decade ago at an event for the movie 'Leafie, A Hen into the Wild,' where IU was performing an OST. Moon So-ri recalled, "I saw her briefly in the waiting room. She was so small and quiet. At the time, I was about seven months pregnant, so my belly was big, but IU was so petite and girlish. I wondered how such a powerful voice could come from such a delicate frame," she reflected.

Fast forward over ten years, and Moon So-ri reunited with IU in 'When Life Gives You Tangerines.' Both actresses played the character 'Ae-soon' at different ages, with IU also taking on the role of Ae-soon's daughter 'Geum-myung,' portraying a mother-daughter relationship.

Moon So-ri commented, "This time, I noticed IU has an incredible energy. She's confident and capable. I often thought she has an immense sense of responsibility," adding, "I don't think she's from this world. She's handling so much more than an average person could, and she's doing it all so well. She played my daughter in the series, but I'm proud of her." Moon So-ri also shared a light-hearted moment about attending an IU concert with her daughter, who is a fan.

'When Life Gives You Tangerines' is a series that unfolds the adventurous life of 'rebellious rascal' Ae-soon and 'stubborn iron man' Gwan-sik, set against the backdrop of Jeju Island. The story spans from their innocent teenage years to unpredictable youth, and through the challenges of middle age, covering their 70-year journey from 1960s Jeju to 2025 Seoul. IU and Park Bo-gum portray the young Ae-soon and Gwan-sik, while Moon So-ri and Park Hae-jun play their middle-aged counterparts.
You Have Done a Great Job

IU also cherished her acting experience with senior actress Moon So-ri. During a simultaneous press interview, IU confessed, "The idea of sharing the same role with Moon So-ri was both thrilling and nerve-wracking."

IU admitted she was concerned about whether she could capture the depth of Ae-soon as Moon So-ri did. She expressed gratitude for Moon So-ri's approachability and willingness to communicate, saying, "I visited her studio and asked her everything I wanted to know. It's not easy for a junior to approach a senior like that, but she was very open."

IU explained that they built the character of Ae-soon by finding common ground, saying, "Thanks to her, I got hints to portray a more three-dimensional character. It was a joyful process."

IU also mentioned that Moon So-ri's support was invaluable when portraying the mother-daughter dynamic between Ae-soon and Geum-myung. "She treated me with such warmth that I felt like Ae-soon was really there. Off-camera, she's charismatic and impressive, but on set, with Ae-soon's hairstyle and floral clothes, she was just Ae-soon. It helped me immerse myself as Geum-myung," IU explained.

IU concluded by saying, "Seeing her as a role model helped me in portraying Ae-soon. I'm grateful for her guidance. I believe that Ae-soon will remain memorable to audiences because of Moon So-ri's dedication and performance. Playing the younger version of Ae-soon was a privilege for me."
