Korean-French actor Park Ji-min will serve as a jury member for the Short Film and La Cinef (student film) sections at the 79th Cannes Film Festival.
The Cannes Film Festival executive committee announced the list of five jury members for the Short Film and La Cinef sections on its official website on April 29 (local time).
Together with four other jurors, Park will evaluate the 10 films in the Short Film Competition to select the winner of the Short Film Palme d'Or, as well as judge the 19 films invited to the La Cinef section.
Born in South Korea, Park moved to France at the age of 9. After majoring in visual arts at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris, she worked as a visual artist focusing on installation art, painting, and sculpture.
She made her acting debut in the 2023 film "Return to Seoul" (directed by Davy Chou), which was invited to the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival, marking her first connection with the festival.
Last year, she returned to Cannes with the film "The Little Sister" (directed by Hafsia Herzi). "The Little Sister" depicts the first season of 17-year-old Fatima, who begins to become herself for the first time, rather than being someone's daughter or someone's lover. In this film, Park delivered a passionate performance as Ji-na, a character who shakes up the life of the protagonist, Fatima (played by Nadia Melliti). The film won two awards: Best Actress (Nadia Melliti) and the Queer Palm.
The film will be released in theaters in Korea on May 13.
