SHINee member KEY has officially resumed his activities after a six-month hiatus, following his admission of involvement in a controversy regarding illegal medical procedures, often referred to as the "Injection Aunt" scandal.
At midnight on May 11, a schedule film for SHINee’s 6th mini-album, "Atmos", was released on the group's official channel. In the video, KEY appeared in the roles of a weather forecaster and an on-site reporter to personally announce his comeback schedule and concert details. Sporting short blonde hair and a bold style, KEY showcased his signature wit, effectively signaling his official return to the spotlight.
SHINee is set to hold their solo concert, "THE INVERT", at the KSPO DOME in Seoul's Olympic Park from May 29 to 31, followed by the release of their 6th mini-album, "Atmos", on June 1.
KEY was previously embroiled in the "Injection Aunt" controversy last December, alongside television personality Park Na-rae and others. The individual in question was suspected of performing illegal medical procedures on celebrities without a medical license.
At the time, SM Entertainment stated, "KEY first met the individual, referred to as A, while visiting a clinic recommended by an acquaintance, believing A to be a doctor. When it became difficult to visit the clinic recently, he received treatment at home a few times." The agency added, "He believed the individual was a doctor and did not realize that receiving treatment at home could be problematic."
Following the incident, KEY declared a hiatus, stating, "I am deeply reflecting on my ignorance," and ceased his appearances on programs such as MBC’s "I Live Alone" and tvN’s "Amazing Saturday".
While some SHINee fans have expressed support, arguing that "KEY may also be a victim of deception," many others have reacted critically, questioning if his return is "too soon for someone who declared a hiatus" and asking "what the meaning of his self-reflection was."
As KEY prepares to stand before the public for the first time since the controversy, attention is focused on whether he will be able to shift public opinion through his upcoming activities.
