"EXchange 4" cast members Kwak Min-kyung and Shin Seung-yong surprised fans by revealing that they had been secretly dating even before the show aired.
On the 8th, Kwak Min-kyung uploaded a video titled “A Story I Want to Share” on her YouTube channel where she opened up about her relationship with Shin Seung-yong.
Kwak shared, “We started seeing each other before the show was released. It wasn’t that we were trying to hide it from the beginning, but I spent a lot of time wondering how to talk about it.” She added, “After filming ended, I was going through a really hard time, and Seung-yong was the person who stayed by my side the most. He recommended books to me, gave me gifts, and little by little, I started developing feelings for him.”
Shin Seung-yong also recalled, “The first time we met alone at a café, I felt strangely nervous. After that day, I started seeing Min-kyung differently, and we ended up talking almost every day. At one point, Min-kyung came back from a trip far away, and I offered to pick her up because, honestly, I just wanted to see her one more time.” He added that he even gave her a book while driving her home.
The couple also spoke honestly about the difficulties of dating in secret after the show aired, saying they often wore masks to avoid attention from the public. Shin said, “I kept wondering what we had done wrong to deserve hiding like this. Eventually, we decided it would be better if we told people ourselves.” Kwak added, “Even though I’ve been having one of the happiest times of my life through YouTube, I always felt sorry that I couldn’t be completely honest with viewers. I think now I’ll finally be able to show a more comfortable and genuine side of myself.”
Shin also expressed concern for Kwak, saying, “Min-kyung gets hurt very easily. If anyone is going to leave hateful comments, please leave them on my YouTube channel instead.”
Following the announcement, online reactions poured in, with fans commenting things like, “I’m genuinely shocked,” “They suit each other so well,” “This feels like a romantic comedy,” and “They look like they could end up getting married.”
On "EXchange 4", Kwak Min-kyung appeared alongside her ex-boyfriend Cho Yoo-sik, whom she had dated for eight years, but the two ultimately did not reunite. Meanwhile, Cho Yoo-sik became a final couple with Park Hyun-ji, the ex-girlfriend of Shin Seung-yong. During the show, Shin had affectionately called Kwak “princess” and sincerely encouraged her by saying, “A princess can do anything.”
