The outline for Director Park Chan-wook’s next project has been revealed.

On the 24th, the U.S. media outlet Deadline reported, "Director Park Chan-wook will present 'The Brigands of Rattlecreek' as his next project."

'The Brigands of Rattlecreek' has been on Director Park Chan-wook’s list of potential projects for several years. This Western film tells the story of a small town attacked by outlaws and the sheriff and doctor who lead the survivors on a quest for revenge. S. Craig Zahler of 'Bone Tomahawk' wrote the screenplay, and Bradley Fischer of 'Shutter Island' is set to produce.

The project first gained attention in 2006 when it appeared on the 'Black List' (a list of highly-regarded unproduced screenplays in Hollywood), but it remained unproduced until now, finally seeing the light of day after 20 years. The production budget is reportedly over 60 million dollars (approximately 88.7 billion KRW).

What catches the eye is the star-studded cast. Matthew McConaughey, who won the Academy Award for Best Actor for 'Dallas Buyers Club,' is reportedly set to play the lead role of the doctor. Austin Butler, famous for 'Elvis' and 'Dune: Part Two,' and Pedro Pascal, beloved in Korea for the 'Narcos' series and 'Wonder Woman 1984,' will also star. Additionally, Tang Wei, who worked with Director Park Chan-wook on 'Decision to Leave,' has joined the cast.

'The Brigands of Rattlecreek' is also scheduled to be introduced at the film market of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, which begins on May 12. At this year’s festival, Park Chan-wook is set to serve as the first Korean filmmaker to act as the jury president.
