Lim Ji-yeon’s “Joseon villainess” crashes into 21st-century Korea in "My Royal Nemesis", her eyes going wide at the unfamiliar world around her.

Premiering May 8, SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama "My Royal Nemesis" (written by Kang Hyun-ju, directed by Han Tae-seop) is a high-stakes rom-com. It follows Shin Seori (played by Lim Ji-yeon), an unknown actress possessed by the soul of the notorious Joseon-era villainess Kang Dan-sim (also Lim Ji-yeon), and Cha Segye (played by Heo Nam-jun), a ruthless chaebol dubbed a “monster of capitalism.” Director Han Tae-seop, known for "Hot Stove League" and "Cheer Up," teams up with rising writer Kang Hyun-ju.

On the 15th, the production released stills capturing the exact moment the “Joseon villainess” arrives in the modern day. Lim Ji-yeon’s Shin Seori―now carrying the spirit of Kang Dan-sim―stares, stunned, at the wild new world unfolding right in front of her.

One still shows her completely thrown off by sights she’s never seen before, even getting her face grabbed by a palace maid (musuri)―a bizarre first for the fearsome antiheroine. Her bewildered expression dials up the comedy, while teasing the big question: How did she end up dropped into the heart of the 21st century?

Another cut catches her regaining that “clear-eyed crazy” glare―sharp, chilling, and impossible to approach―radiating the iron will of a villainess who once ruled Joseon. Can the ultimate Joseon troublemaker survive modern Korea? Her chaotic yet hilarious adaptation arc has fans curious.

Above all, Lim Ji-yeon’s comedic facial acting steals the spotlight. With "My Royal Nemesis" marking her first full-on comedic turn, she promises laugh-out-loud moments with fearless, physical performance. Anticipation is rising to see how her “comic villainess” persona plays out when the show airs.

SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama "My Royal Nemesis" will premiere as the follow-up to Phantom Lawyer on Friday, May 8, at 9:50 p.m.
