Premiering Friday, March 13, SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama ‘Phantom Lawyer’ (written by Kim Ga-young and Kang Cheol-gyu; directed by Shin Joong-hoon) follows “spirit-possessed lawyer” Shin I-rang (Yoo Yeon-seok) and “cold-blooded elite attorney” Han Na-hyun (Esom) as they take on cases that release the lingering grudges of the dead―known as han-puri―delivering cathartic justice along the way.
While fans are already buzzing about Yoo Yeon-seok and Esom’s fresh spin on the legal genre, the show’s standout hook is its unique world-building: “han-puri defense.” Each episode crosses the line between law and the afterlife to resolve a deceased person’s unjust grudge, creating distinct, case-by-case stories.
In the premiere, scene-stealing actor Heo Sung-tae makes a special cameo. He plays Lee Kang-pung, the very first client Shin I-rang meets after becoming “possessed.” Why he holds a grudge, and why he remains in the living world, is still under wraps.
Newly released stills from the 9th spotlight Lee Kang-pung’s bloodless, pale face―immediately arresting. Curiosity spikes over what case will spring from this eerie encounter between the spirit-empowered lawyer and his vengeful ghost client.
Behind-the-scenes photos tell a different story: Yoo Yeon-seok and Heo Sung-tae flash matching V signs with bright smiles, hinting at the upbeat energy on set.
The production team shared, “Lee Kang-pung is meaningful as the first client who opens the world of ‘Phantom Lawyer.’ He’s the character who first showcases the unique setup of ‘han-puri defense,’ which resolves the grudges of the wronged dead,” adding, “We’re grateful to actor Heo Sung-tae for gladly taking on this pivotal role. His appearance will fire the starting gun for the han-puri adventure. With four days to go, look forward to Heo Sung-tae’s powerful impact in the premiere.”
‘Phantom Lawyer’ premieres Friday at 9:50 p.m.
