Seonye looked back on losing her father while Wonder Girls were promoting in the United States.
On the February 27 episode of KBS 2TV’s "Stars’ Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant", new cast member Seonye opens up about the pain she went through during Wonder Girls’ U.S. activities in 2009―and how that moment changed the course of her life.
On the show, Seonye cooks a homemade meal for her aunt and uncle, who stood by her like parents. Wonder Girls were a national girl group and the first of their peers to push into the U.S. market. At the height of their packed schedule in 2009, Seonye received shocking news that her father was in critical condition. “My dad lived for 20 years with almost no lung function, and then all his organs slowly failed. In the end, he passed away,” she recalled.
Her aunt and uncle remembered that time, saying, “Seonye called from the U.S. and said, ‘We have to keep him alive until the end.’” Despite her desperate hope, her father passed. Her aunt then shared his final request to her before he died, tearing up as she spoke. Hearing the story for the first time, Seonye also broke down in tears.
At a time when she was shining brightest with global popularity as a singer, Seonye lost her grandfather and then her father, one after another. She admitted she was mentally shattered back then, saying, “Anyone would feel like this…” She went on to thank her aunt and uncle, who have stayed by her side ever since, calling them “another mom and dad” to her.
