Joo Jong-hyuk opened up about his unexpected background.

On the Feb. 24 episode of SBS’s "Whenever Possible", actors Ra Mi-ran and Joo Jong-hyuk joined as “gap friends.”

After completing a mission, the Yoo-Yoo Brothers and the friends moved to grab a meal.

Paju resident Ra Mi-ran led the cast to her go-to spot. “It’s a place I often visit with Kim Sook,” she said, building anticipation.

The cast arrived in front of a restaurant where the whole neighborhood smelled amazing. Yoo Jae-suk said, “Oh, this must be Samhaksan,” and Ra Mi-ran corrected him: “It’s Simhaksan.”

Known as a hotspot packed with great eateries, the place didn’t disappoint. The group dug in and raved over a spicy braised chicken dish with acorn jelly noodles.

Yoo Yeon-seok, who said he was dieting, debated adding ramen noodles―then gave in to temptation. “I usually eat well, but I’m on a diet because my first shoot is the day after tomorrow,” he said, looking tense.

Ra Mi-ran then teased that Joo Jong-hyuk has a surprising resume. Joo shared, “My dad ran a gym, so I’m a fourth-dan in taekwondo. I lived in the Philippines, then moved to New Zealand and majored in hotel management. I worked as a bartender in Cheongdam to become a cruise bartender, and then became an actor.”

He continued, “After I happened to join an MBC promo shoot, I had so much fun I started acting. A hyung I worked part-time with was an actor, so I asked how to get started. He said, ‘Want to live together?’ So we lived together for seven years. That hyung is actor Jang Jae-ho.”

He added, “Actor Gong Min-jung and Jae-ho hyung got married, and I gave the congratulatory speech. I planned to introduce him with a line like the scene from the movie 'My Sassy Girl'―‘This is my hyung’―but as soon as the intro music played, I teared up and sobbed. People asked if I was her ex-boyfriend,” he said, sharing a funny-sad story.

Ra Mi-ran related, saying, “I cry when I see weddings in a hall.” The Yoo-Yoo Brothers then asked if she’s an F type. Ra Mi-ran said she’s a T, and Joo Jong-hyuk chimed in, “Noona really cries a lot. She even cries on variety shows.” Ra Mi-ran laughed it off: “That’s just age. My MBTI is ENTP. No plans, no tears.”

At the end of the episode, a preview teased appearances by Choo Sung-hoon and Kim Dong-hyun, heightening anticipation for the next broadcast.
