Premiering Friday, March 13, SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama "Phantom Lawyer" (written by Kim Ga-young and Kang Cheol-gyu, directed by Shin Joong-hoon) follows “possessed lawyer” Shin I-rang (played by Yoo Yeon-seok), who helps restless spirits get justice, and “cold-blooded elite lawyer” Han Na-hyun (played by Esom), who puts everything on the line to win. It’s a bizarre yet heartwarming adventure of righting wrongs from beyond the grave.
In the main poster, every deity-like figure and ghost behind Shin I-rang shares his face―a detail that set social media buzzing. The stills released on the 24th make that hint even clearer.
Shin I-rang, who starts his legal career as a late-blooming attorney, keeps failing law firm interviews for reasons he can’t explain. He opens his own practice instead. But once he sets up shop in Room 501 of Okcheon Building―formerly a shaman’s shrine―his world flips. He begins to see ghosts. Overwhelmed by the rage and sorrow of the dead, he’s suddenly possessed without warning.
In the new images, Shin I-rang looks nothing like himself―from a hyped-up middle-aged man with his hands tucked into his waistband to a coolly rational, relentless scientist. There’s even a behind-the-scenes snap of him in a neatly styled hanbok taking a selfie, hinting that this “alter ego parade” will jump genres and eras. Caught off guard by the rapid-fire shifts in speech, gaze, and gestures, he touches his own face to check reality. It all begs the question: which spirit will arrive next, and with what story? Each split-second moment serves laughs, tension, and mystery all at once.
Most of all, Yoo Yeon-seok’s one-man acting showcase―living multiple lives inside a single character―is the drama’s biggest draw. With each persona swapping out profession, temperament, tone, and energy, his deep toolkit promises to become a key engine rocking the show’s rhythm.
