The film ‘The King's Warden’ ruled the Lunar New Year holiday box office.

On the 19th, the Korean Film Council’s integrated box office database reported that from the 14th to the 18th, the movie drew 2,666,450 nationwide admissions, holding the No. 1 spot. Its cumulative total stands at 3,521,273.

After opening on the 4th, ‘The King's Warden’ led the box office through its first weekend before briefly yielding the top spot when rival title ‘HUMINT’ premiered. It reclaimed No. 1 within a day―just in time for the holiday frame.

It defended No. 1 throughout the Lunar New Year holiday, surpassing 600,000 daily viewers on the 17th and 18th. The film crossed 1 million in five days, 2 million in 12 days, and 3 million in 14 days―and looks set to top 4 million this weekend.

The early run was steady rather than explosive, but momentum surged in week two as holiday crowds and word of mouth kicked in. With 3 million already in the bag just two weeks in, ‘The King's Warden’ is now eyeing the 5 million milestone.

Set in 1457 in Cheongnyeongpo, the story follows a village head who voluntarily goes into exile to revive his community and a young, deposed former king who has been banished. The film stars Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, and Jeon Mi-do, and is directed by Jang Hang-jun.
