Dream Journey to the Peach Blossom Land Rehearsal

With opening night just six days away, the new original musical "ARANG" has thrown open the rehearsal room doors―serving up laughs, tears and a rush of adrenaline as it teases a sweeping, Korean-inspired spectacle.

As the cast hits the home stretch, leads channel clashing desires and convictions with pinpoint emotional detail and roof-raising vocals, turning rehearsal into a full-on performance. In newly released photos, the actors layer personal interpretations onto a tightly woven narrative, dialing up anticipation for the world onstage.

Min Woo-hyuk and Kim Ju-taek, both playing King Yeo-gyeong, cut through with commanding intensity, mapping the character’s inner turmoil and singular presence with multidimensional bite. As "ARANG", Ha Yoon-ju and Yuria ground the drama with nuanced psychology and a lyrical timbre. Playing Domi, Lee Choong-ju and Kim Sung-sik leave a lingering ache, tracing a line from tender devotion to shattering heartbreak. Rounding out the ensemble, Hong Ryun-hee and Jung Eun-hye as Bia, Kim Jin-soo as Hae-su, and Yoo Seong-jae as Jin-rim all lock in with assured chemistry that lifts the production’s polish.
Ensemble Choreography Blending Korean Aesthetics and Modern Dynamism

One major spotlight: an outsized ensemble that marries traditional Korean lines with contemporary propulsion. The large-scale choreography promises a visual jolt―precision and power designed to dominate the stage.

The musical contrasts the pure, luminous love between Domi and "ARANG" with King Yeo-gyeong’s hollow hunger for power, driving a high-stakes tale. Expect fantastical mass numbers that feel alive in real time, a dreamlike garden rendered with ink-painting aesthetics, and a score where Western orchestration meets Korean traditional motifs―distilling the essence of Korean stage design. To blur dream and reality, the production fuses East Asian visual language with cutting-edge stagecraft, aiming to deliver a new kind of Korean musical built to resonate with audiences worldwide.

"ARANG" stars Min Woo-hyuk and Kim Ju-taek as Yeo-gyeong; Ha Yoon-ju and Yuria as "ARANG"; Lee Choong-ju and Kim Sung-sik as Domi; Seo Young-ju and Jeon Jae-hong as Hyang-sil; Hong Ryun-hee and Jung Eun-hye as Bia; Kim Jin-soo as Hae-su; and Yoo Seong-jae as Jin-rim. The show opens Tuesday, January 27, 2026, and runs through Sunday, February 22, at the National Theater of Korea’s Haeorum Grand Theater, then transfers to Charlotte Theater from Friday, April 10, to Sunday, May 10, 2026.
