Conversation lit up online after LE SSERAFIM’s Huh Yunjin delivered a live stage that split opinions.
On January 10 at Taipei Dome, the vocalist took the stage at the 40th Golden Disc Awards with a stripped-back cover of the late Kim Hyun-sik’s classic “Like Rain, Like Music.” Accompanied by guitar, the performance swapped the group’s usual high-energy choreography for a spotlight on vocals.
Reactions were divided from the jump, with some viewers pointing to pitch and breath control that felt shaky in the opening moments. Given Huh’s standing as one of the group’s lead voices, expectations were sky-high―and the scrutiny matched it.
Others noted the challenges of a live, overseas awards broadcast―unfamiliar acoustics, day-of condition―and the polarizing nature of an emotive ballad that leans heavily on interpretation. Depending on taste, the delivery either resonated or missed the mark.
Since debut, Huh has anchored many of LE SSERAFIM’s tracks, making her mark with a steady lower register and distinctive tone on songs from “FEARLESS” onward. After the team solidified as a five-piece, she often opened stages, earning praise for setting the mood.
The discourse follows criticism the group faced around live vocals after its 2024 Coachella set.
Elsewhere at the ceremony, LE SSERAFIM won a Digital Song Bonsang for the title track “HOT” off their fifth mini album. “Thank you for seeing our sincerity―it means everything,” the members said, shouting out fans. The group will keep momentum going with encore dates for their world tour in Seoul later this month.
