Shim Eun-kyung’s new feature "Two Seasons, Two Strangers" crossed 40,000 admissions on Christmas Eve (Dec. 24), after hitting 10,000 by day three, 20,000 by day five and 30,000 by day ten.
Fueled by word of mouth, the wintery crowd-pleaser is staking a claim on the holiday box office. The film is keeping momentum with a flurry of events: in-person Q&As on Christmas with star Shim Eun-kyung, director Jang Hang-jun and film critic Jung Sung-il, plus an online Q&A with director Miyake Sho.
Set in the winter of 2025, "Two Seasons, Two Strangers" follows a screenwriter known only as Lee, who believes she’s reached the end―until an unexpected stay at an inn in a snowbound town opens up strange pockets of time and a fresh beginning. The film draws from legendary manga artist Yoshiharu Tsuge’s beloved works "A Seaside Scene" and "Ben-san of Honyarado".
Shim anchors the film as Lee. Kawai Yumi and Takada Mansaku inhabit the couple in Lee’s summertime tale, while Tsutsumi Shinichi appears as the outsider Lee encounters on her snowy journey. Through Miyake Sho’s delicate lens, summer and winter unfold like a dreamlike travelogue, inviting audiences into a new kind of sensory experience.
"Two Seasons, Two Strangers" continues its audience meet-ups over the holiday: Thursday, Dec. 25, a “Merry Talkmas” Q&A with Shim Eun-kyung and Jang Hang-jun will follow the 2 p.m. screening at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall; later that evening, film critic Jung Sung-il will lead an in-depth talk after the 7:30 p.m. screening at Cinecube. On Saturday, Dec. 27, Miyake Sho will join a virtual Q&A following the 12:30 p.m. screening at KU Cinematheque, offering fans a meaningful wrap to the week.
