'The People Upstairs' Kong Hyo-jin on Ha Jung-woo: "His Comedy Confidence Is Sky-High"

Kong Hyo-jin has nothing but confidence in Ha Jung-woo as a director.

Speaking at an Open Talk for "The People Upstairs" on Sept. 19 at the Busan Cinema Center’s outdoor stage in Haeundae, Busan, Kong reflected on reuniting with Ha 13 years after "Love Fiction." “After all this time, I’m meeting him again ― now as a director,” she said. “I felt I had to show how much I’ve grown since then and deliver a performance that would more than satisfy him.”

As for the finished film, she added, “Director Ha’s confidence with comedy and humor is at an all-time high ― and "The People Upstairs" is packed with it.”

"The People Upstairs" follows an upstairs couple and the pair living below whose dinner together―sparked by a noise dispute―spirals in unexpected ways. The film is a remake of the Spanish dramedy "The People Upstairs."

With this project, Ha takes on his fourth feature as a director and also stars. His most recent directing effort, "Lobby," opened in April, marking two releases within a year.

Invited to Busan International Film Festival’s Korean Cinema Today - Special Premiere section, "The People Upstairs" will meet audiences three times during the festival and is slated for a domestic year-end release.
